Purina, the venerable pet food manufacturer, is offering a new product aimed at a bipdedal audience. The company has teamed up with game developer Merscom to create the Facebook application, " Purina Pet Resort. In the social networking game, you play the manager of a hotel for animals. You start with one special dog or cat who serves as a sort of resort mascot, but your main duties are to manage the guest animals. You have to attend to their feelings, keep your resort stocked with food and supplies, host activities to draw in customers, and finally, do these things in a profitable manner.
Social networking games that involve financial management have proven extremely popular. For Purina, this is a great opportunity for advertising, because the in-game foods your resort will need all have the company's brand name. However, the game is still very new, and has entered an online marketplace with many more established apps.. Purina Pet Resort offers a different hook from, say, Farmville, but time will tell if owning a pet resort is a unique enough appeal to pry social gamers from their other online addictions.
